When I was 40 I picked up a paintbrush for the first time since I was 15. I never put it back down but neither did I cease being a trademark attorney. I painted and taught myself about art before and after work. I wanted to understand what was ART? I went to gallery shows and museum exhibits and art fairs and read reviews and made collages trying to understand what was ART?
I learned that “art is not about creating beauty out of misty-eyed Hallmark moments but about discovering and communicating messy truths that spill all over the place, jus like the lives of the artists driven to uncover them”.
I learned how much line matters.
I learned materials matter as does context and history and I learned that when all combined it can transformed a Man Ray photograph into a different work of art.
